Custard Comedy is your
chance to see really high quality stand up comedy right on
your doorstep. Each month our team of comedy talent spotters
kidnap top comics from London's most fashionable establishments.
The comics are then bound, gagged and bundled into a black
cab which belts up the M11 and deposits them reeling and woozy
into a packed Dance Studio at Comberton Sports & Arts. Which is
why they always look a bit confused and a little worried... [Health and Safety Disclaimer: The above is not strictly true. We don't gag
them.] |
Headliner: Nick Revell.
Middle: Neil Cole.
Opener: Damian Kingsley.
Master of Ceremonies: Tony Jameson.

| As one of the original voices from the 1980s Comedy Store era, Nick Revell has been round a block or two. Having earned a Perrier nomination in 1987, his stand-up career seemed to be flying, but in 1992 he decided to have a break and concentrate on writing. That break lasted an entire decade. 'In retrospect I should have kept the motor ticking over but I was always a topical comic who turned over lots of new material. I was getting so much work as a writer and got out of the discipline of having to go to Coventry on a rainy Tuesday, so I just made the decision to stop.' Now happy enough back in stand-up, Revell's skills as a political satirist are honed on panel show podcast No Pressure to be Funny. 'It's a mixture of comics, journalists and charity workers and we want them to come on without worrying that it's going to be a comedians contest to see who can do the funniest jokes all the time.' On his impressive writing CV are jobs working with Rory Bremner, Dave Allen, the Not the Nine O'Clock News team, Friday Night Live, Just A Minute, The News Quiz, Quote Unquote, Drop the Dead Donkey, Alas Smith and Jones, Weekending, The News Huddlines, to name but a few. "The wonderful Nick Revell...A brilliant observer of contemporary idiocies....a shrewd commentator on society and the political scene....Having begun his career not long after alternative comedy's equivalent of the year dot....you'd forgive Nick Revell if these days he chose to put his feet up of an evening. Instead, he maintains a gigging schedule that would shatter many fresher-faced acts...While he's got access to a vein of intoxicating anger, he's also a comedian who can transmit a huge amount of real human warmth. Expect to be seduced by a genuine craftsman" (Guardian Guide 2009). |
| Neil Cole is an actor, stand-up comedian and motorsport broadcaster. As a stand-up comedian he is appearing at all the major comedy clubs around the country, including MCing for music events at The Royal Albert Hall and supporting Russell Brand on his UK tour. He is currently filming across the globe for the 'Dave' Channel as presenter of The World Rally Championship as well as presenting a regular show on NME Radio. "A relaxed, amiable presence... an easy chemistry with his audience... enjoyably bawdy... impressive imaginative leaps... Cole delights in wordplay and possesses a mixed bag of excellent and self-consciously groan-worthy puns" (The Scotsman, March 2010). |
| Damian Kingsley started performing in Tokyo in 2006 at ex–pat open mic nights. In June 2008 he moved back to work on the UK comedy circuit, and reached the finals of Bath Fringe, Newbury Fringe and Laughing Horse competitions over the next couple of years. "A considerable talent, with strong anecdotal humour" (Three Weeks, Edinburgh 2011), “Super Storyteller” - (Karen Koren, Gilded Balloon). |
| Since starting stand-up in 2008, our master of ceremonies Tony Jameson has quickly established himself as one of the brightest up-and-coming comperes on the circuit. "With his hyperactive brain and whimsical imagination, he is sure to keep the laughs coming...." (Gigglebeats.co.uk). "Very good indeed – engaging, witty and with great audience interaction; he keeps our audiences engaged and the energy levels high." (Eva Mackay, The Stand Comedy Club Edinburgh 2011). |

| Background to Rhubarb Cabaret: |
| Sister to the hugely popular Custard Comedy - this is the fourth outing for Rhubarb Cabaret. We have been working on it for months so that this event will be spectacular and fantastic! |
|
Rhubarb Cabaret is a new local cabaret night with a variety of acts from the national cabaret scene. Cabaret has been enjoying something of a renaissance in the last few years with the popularity of cabaret stages at music festivals bringing a whole new generation to this many varied art form. Flick through the latest 'Time-Out' in London and you will see no less than five pages now dedicated to cabaret yet just a couple of years ago there wasn't even a cabaret section! We are going to present high quality acts in the same way that we do with Custard Comedy and to build it slowly over time. |
Rhubarb Cabaret is a partnership between Comberton Sport & Arts and PMB Productions.
PMB productions are a locally based production company who have loads of experience in running similar events.
Programming: PMB - Vanessa Bond at vanessa@bondini.co.uk |

She is a hotly-tipped performer with a string of TV credits to her name. |
| Jeremy O'Donnell - a regular at some of Britain's biggest comedy clubs, Jeremy mixes sharp one-liners with sparkling off-the-cuff wit. |
| Ben Davids - one of the UK's brightest up-and-coming talents. "His one-liners showed considerable skill in the writing and an admirable sense of timing." - Chortle. |
| And your compere for the evening, returning to Comberton by popular demand: Ben van der Velde. "A stunningly quick wit" - Spoonfed. |
