Comberton Village College
50th Anniversary Arts Festival 2010 |
|
|
|
| Bourn Players’ association with Comberton Village
College began in 2006 with their successful staging of Guys
and Dolls. Since then they have had huge successes with their
version of Oliver! and most recently, Anything Goes.
|
| This local group cut their teeth on productions
at Bourn CofE Primary School and have always featured children,
and young people, from local primary schools and, of course,
the Village College, itself. |
| This year, the connection to the College is stronger
still as Mike Sharpe, CVCs very own Head of Drama, is directing
the show. As part of the Village College’s 50th Anniversary
celebrations in March, Bourn players are delighted to be performing
the Cole Porter classic Kiss me, Kate. |
| Based loosely on Shakespeare’s Taming of the
Shrew, the show plots the fiery relationship between the
two leads in a performance of ‘The Shrew’ in Baltimore in
the 50s. Fred and Lilli literally fight-it-out on stage as
they struggle to come to terms with the fact that they are
‘So in Love’. Ably supported by a cast that includes gangsters,
an army general, and the citizens of Padua, the show is considered
by many to be Cole Porter’s best and most complete work. |
| The show features some of Cole Porter’s best
numbers - including the sizzling ‘Too Darn Hot’ and the hilarious
‘Brush up you Shakespeare’. Kiss me, Kate was a huge
hit when first performed and was revived to great reviews
in the West End and Broadway in the late 1990s. |
| The 2010 Bourn Players’ production of Kiss
me, Kate will support the Alzheimer’s Society |
